Tesla Powershare V2H extends to Model 3/Y; Cybercab heads to the Paris Motor Show and about 200 are stockpiled in Houston
Two gradual positives, neither yet delivered. (1) Powershare Home Backup, previously exclusive to Cybertruck, extends to the whole Model 3/Y volume range (new orders from 1 Oct leave the factory with bidirectional charging hardware).

It ties the car's battery into the Powerwall 3 home energy system, deepens vertical integration from vehicle to energy, and points to the higher-margin storage line (Q2 gross margin 20.4% against 16.3% for automotive). (2) Cybercab lands in Europe for the first time on 12 Oct (a static display at the Paris Motor Show), while the Robotaxi lot in Houston has already stockpiled about 190 to 200 vehicles and they are testing on public roads. That moves the second city for expansion from talk to vehicles actually gathered. Both are gradual positives for the ecosystem and the supply side, and neither is yet delivered.
Key evidence
- Tesla Energy announced on 6 Oct that every Model 3/Y ordered on or after 1 Oct 2026 leaves the factory with bidirectional charging hardware. Paired with a Powerwall 3 this enables V2H, adding more than 2 days of backup per car (assuming home use of 30kWh a day and a 90% charge) and more than 3 days for Cybertruck.
- The Powershare Home Backup kit is officially priced at about $1,970. It requires a Powerwall 3 and a Wall Connector. Cars that already have the hardware can have it activated through customer service, with nothing to retrofit.
- This follows the item already published on 20 Sep, 'V2H extends from Cybertruck to selected Model Y configurations'. Today it goes a step further, from selected configurations to the whole volume range, with a formal launch, a name and a price.
- Ford and GM achieved home backup power years ago, and Tesla's volume cars have only caught up today. This is catching up, not leading.
- Tesla has confirmed that Cybercab will be shown publicly in Europe for the first time at the Paris Motor Show, which opens on 12 Oct (static display only, with no rides for visitors), alongside FSD test drives.
- Drone footage of the Robotaxi lot in Houston shows about 190 to 200 Cybercabs stockpiled, some charging and some already testing on public roads.
Show 3 more
- Houston is seen as the most likely second city for Cybercab after Austin, but Tesla has set no official date for expansion.
- This follows the item published on 21 Sep, 'large numbers of Cybercabs arrive in Houston'. Today the supply picture moves from 'large numbers' to about 200 vehicles that are testing on the road, moving expansion a notch from talk to vehicles gathering.
- Paris is the first European stop after static tours in Japan, China, and Australia and New Zealand, and it warms up the ground for a possible European launch.
Catalysts to watch
- Whether later Powerwall 3 shipments and installation data are lifted by the V2H launch (the real monetisation signal)
- The V2H activation rate on new Model 3/Y orders
- Reaction at the Paris Motor Show on 12-18 Oct and signals from European regulators
- Whether Tesla announces a date for expansion to Houston, and when the first commercial driverless rides begin
- Continued tracking of the gap between Cybercab registrations in Austin and the number actually running
Risks
- Powershare is limited to new orders from 1 Oct and requires a Powerwall 3, so most existing cars are excluded and the reach is narrow
- V2H does almost nothing for vehicle ASP or gross margin in the near term, and is a product feature addition
- Paris is a purely static showcase, with no road testing and no passengers. European regulation has not opened to cars with no steering wheel or pedals on the road, so commercial use is very far off
- The roughly 200 is a count of cars gathered in a lot or testing on the road, not of vehicles in genuine driverless commercial operation (echoing the long-running gap in Austin, where registrations are far above vehicles actually running)
- Houston is still only a 'candidate', and Tesla has set no official date for expansion
