Roadster launch date fixed for 1 Oct, FSD v14.3.9 ACE pulled, congressman sets 30 Sep deadline over drivers asleep at the wheel…

Second-generation Roadster gets its first launch date: 1 Oct, 8:30pm ET, Waco…

A flagship product that has dragged on for 9 years and slipped at least 7 times has a public date in writing for the first time. It completes a dense 30-day marketing window of 3 launches: Cybercab on 3 Sep, Semi on 24 Sep and Roadster on 1 Oct.

Key evidence

  • On 12 Sep the website put up a countdown and a teaser image reading 'Go for launch'.
  • 1 Oct is a product demonstration and unveiling, not a delivery. According to Musk, production and deliveries only begin in 2027 to 2028.
  • There is still no price, specification or production plan. The cold-gas thruster hover is a marketing gimmick, and the Roadster, an extremely niche halo model, adds almost nothing to delivery volumes.

Verdict

A sentiment and marketing boost, not a valuation-level catalyst

FSD v14.3.9 rolls out 'automatic collision avoidance' (ACE)…

An upgrade to active safety, but it is explicitly HW4-only, and older HW3/AI3 cars can only get the cut-down v14.2 Lite. Once again, the official version allocation confirms that the installed base of HW3 cars cannot get the full capability (echoing the core argument of the Dutch collective claim by nearly 7,000 HW3 owners).

Key evidence

  • ACE: when AEB is not enough to avoid a crash, FSD (Supervised) can take over actively by changing lanes or steering onto the shoulder, and by accelerating or braking.
  • HW4 only. HW3/AI3 get only v14.2 Lite.
  • Tesla pulled v14.3.9 back from the fleet within minutes of release, and no reason has been given.

Verdict

A gradual positive on the supply and software side, discounted by the hardware tiering and the withdrawal

Rep. Krishnamoorthi wrote to DOT Secretary Duffy on 9 Sep demanding a reply by 30…

More regulatory and litigation exposure. NBC has counted 43 videos of drivers who appear to be asleep in moving Teslas (17 of them this year), and the lawmaker ties this directly to NHTSA's engineering analysis EA26002, which has been upgraded and covers about 3.2 million FSD vehicles, including 1 death and 1 injury. It is the last stage before a recall.

Key evidence

  • The lawmaker singled out Tesla's in-car prompt, 'drowsiness detected, use FSD to stay focused', as contradicting the statement that 'FSD requires constant human supervision'.
  • The in-car monitoring can easily be bypassed by covering the camera with a folded banknote or by wearing sunglasses.
  • The Cybercab and the unsupervised Robotaxi run on the same vision-only and driver-monitoring stack, so the sleeping-drivers row and a looming recall directly slow the scaling of genuinely driverless commercial operation.

Verdict

Leans negative for operations; watch for escalation to a recall after 30 Sep

Tesla's European registrations split in August…

The idea of a 'broad recovery in European demand' has been disproved. What the data show is 'a few subsidy-backed markets alongside collapses in several countries'. In North America, the highest-margin market, demand faces systematic headwinds.

Key evidence

  • Tesla in August: France up 279% and Denmark up 104%, soaring; Norway and Spain down 79%; Sweden, Portugal and Italy also fell.
  • Global EV sales in August were about 1.83 million, up only 2% year on year. Europe rose 36% (France's EV penetration hit a record 41%), propped up by subsidies, cheap models and high oil prices.
  • North America fell 33% (demand collapsed after subsidies ended), partly because of a high base from last year's rush to claim subsidies, but a steep year-on-year fall like this is hard evidence of real weakness on the demand side.

Verdict

Leans negative on North America, and the quality of the European gains is discounted because they rely on subsidies; watch Q3 North American deliveries and ASP
